Yesterday (30/10/2020) 7:20pm Baxter Fire Brigade attended a house fire in Frankston (Lakewood Estate). Luckily the fire was quickly extinguished by the occupants prior to the arrival of Baxter Pumper and Tanker.
The fire was caused by a lithium battery for a remote controlled car being charged in close proximity to flammable items.
Like any product, a small number of these batteries can be defective – they can overheat, catch fire or explode.
This was a very close call for all involved and we ask the community to ensure battery chargers are used in a well ventilated area away from flammable materials. Always ensure you use the charger that came with device or battery.
